WE @ 31 Kilo, Istanbul

31KiLO is an exhibition and cooperation project between the Space Istanbul and Künstlerhaus Dortmund. Four artists from Turkey meet four artists from Germany, they work together for two exhibitions in two different spaces, one in Istanbul and one in Dortmund.

For the exhibition in Istanbul, I produced a thread installation stretching black elastic threads between the letters W and E, formed with hooks on diagonal walls, to form the word 'WE'. During times we felt very divided in my country as citizens, I wanted to make a work that questions the concepts of division and unity.
"WE" exists in the space, and only the connection between the letters make the word readable. The action of connecting its components gives the word its meaning.
